The Titans face a pre-season chock-full of rebuilding after the disaster of 2014. Neil Henry has stepped into the head coach’s role and already begun to flex his muscles by giving assistant coach Trevor Gillmeister the arse.
The Titans are losing a small army to retirement and other clubs. Ash Harrison, Mark Minichiello and Luke Bailey are all retiring while Steve Michaels, Sam Irwin, Cody Nelson and Brad Takairangi are all going elsewhere. It also looks as though Beau Henry may be headed to Parramatta.
Luke Douglas and Albert Kelly’s future is still a little cloudy with the possibility of WADA appealing ASADA’s extremely lenient three month suspension for their confessions to taking banned substances.
This mass exodus could play into Henry’s hands. It frees up a swag-load of cash in the cap. Hopefully we can go on a spending spree and get ourselves a fair dinkum centre or two and some real mongrel forwards.
In a real positive sign, Henry has apparently told David Mead that he will be given every opportunity to put forward his case to become the Titans’ fulltime custodian.
Gold Coast has signed two backrower’s in Matt Robinson and Lachlan Burr. The NRL world is also rife with rumours that Ben Hannant may make the trip down the M1 to sign with the Titans.
We just need to organise our backs. We need to lock in a fullback – hopefully Mead – get ourselves some solid centres and a stable halves pairing.
I look forward to the Titans forthcoming shopping binge.
Who should the Titans be looking at signing up?
