Titans benchwarmer, Cody Nelson, has been pinched in the NRL’s all encompassing betting probe. Nelson was today handed a two match ban after it was revealed Nelson placed a single $10 bet while injured in 2013.
Nelson claims that the betting account the bet was made from was set up by a mate to take advantage of a free credit offer. Nelson goes on to claim that the bet itself was made by the same mate.
Nelson maintains that he is not a gambler and that the account in question has closed due to inactivity.
The NRL probe’s biggest scalp was Manly Sea Eagles winger, David ‘Wolfman’ Williams who has been suspended for the rest of the 2014 season for a string of bets over a three year period.
Nelson’s suspension is just more bad news for the Titans who have been cruelled by suspensions, injuries and disciplinary reasons since they were at the nose-bleed section of the ladder earlier in the season.
Is the NRL making a mountain out of a mole hill or is this sort of action necessary to ensure nothing like the Ryan Tandy incident is replicated?
