If one thing went right for the Titans in their 14-36 loss to the Penrith Panthers last night it would have been lonely. It was like a bad day in Baghdad for the Titans and the Panthers played like absolute fiends: it was a recipe for disaster.
Things started to go pear-shaped early when James Segeyaro scythed a path straight through the ruck to tear away and dive over for the first four pointer of the game.
We then hit back through Luke Douglas who hulked through the Panthers defence on their own line and struggled before finally getting the pill down.
Things spiralled out of control from there on in with the Panthers running rampant and seemingly able to cross the line at will. Penrith were able to capitalise on every mistake made by the Titans.
We are a crippled side with Maurice Blair as a make-shift 5/8: what happened to full-time half Beau Henry? There have been calls among Titans fans scattered all over the internet for Will Zillman to be dropped to the Q-Cup and for David Mead to resume his stellar work as fullback. Ben Ridge’s starting role over the man of the moment, Paul Carter, is odd and baffling.
I’m still not sure we’ve found the right centre’s for our squad either.
As usual Dave Taylor was in there busting a gut all to no avail.
What’s going wrong at the Gold Coast? Is it simply an injury ravaged side buckling under the pressure or is there something more sinister at play?
