Maybe it's because I'm a Queenslander. Maybe I just don't get it but I think City vs Country is the most pointless game of footy that needlessly risks the health of star players for no good reason at all.
From what I understand, the general premise of City/Country is to be a try-out for the NSW Origin side.
If the NSW selectors haven't figured out their team by now a ramshackle game played in the middle of Woop-Woop isn't going to make them open their eyes and pick someone based on a game that always seems to be half-hearted at best.
Other people have tried to explain that City/Country is a great opportunity for the NRL to travel the game around rural areas - in NSW only. If the NRL is so concerned with selling the game in rural areas, why don't they require every club to have one home game transferred to a rural stadium around Oz?
Club coaches and management must loathe this game too because their players are running the risk of injury in the middle of the season for...for what?
Is City/Country still relevant?
